Blog Awards
We give each other kudos on our own blogs and send our readers around, but Cosmo UK has an opportunity for you to get some outside recognition for all of your hard work you do blogging about the things you love. I know it may be a little more difficult for our retro blogs to stand up against blogs following the latest Milan fashion, but we need to get some of our blogs mentioned in this.

Retro waves falling in your face
In my post about a bride a couple weeks ago, I promised I would show you the technique I used on her hair. This is a really popular hair curling technique right now as you can see from the image above and all over the internet. Many hair stylists are using it for anything from beachy waves to a fingerwave feel. Most Youtube videos show this process starting at the root and working your way down. Here is my curl version for a retro sexy wave. Here is my hair start. The great thing about this curl is that it can be used on many hair lengths with many curling iron sizes. On shorter hair it feels Carol Lombard 1930s and on longer hair it feels very Veronica Lake 1940s.
Forgive the video a little. I was trying to hold the camera and do the curl at the same time. I couldn't find my tripod. Normally I would help guide the curl using 2 hands.
And please, please be careful!!!
Hair Videos Galore
Culture magazine, a high end hair magazine out of Australia, has a website with an education section crammed with hairstyle how-to's. Most of the videos involve cutting, but there are some great styling ones also. http://www.culturemag.com.au
I'd like to point you all to the one titled "Evo-Chicismo". It is created along with other bizarre videos of avant garde hairstyles that are more editorial than everyday hairstyles. This one though is a great illustration of what can be interpreted as a 1940s hairstyle. Imagine it not pulled quite as tight when the twisting is done. Another option to imagine is as the hair is worked around the back, direct the hair gradually down the back of the scalp so you get a roll that stays closer to the hairline like a halo. Either way, I think it looks great.

Click the image to go to their education section. And stick around to look at everything else they have to offer. I am personally waiting for the Sharon Blain DVD I ordered to arrive. She is a hair goddess in Australia and my personal hero. I learned about her on the Culture website. You can get her to travel to do classes in the US for a pretty penny, so I am starting a "Bring Blain to the US" campaign.

I had to show you this. I've always loved this ensemble.

I am feeling a bit silly today and had an idea of a way to embarrass the heck out of my boyfriend's teen daughters at the public swimming pool.
I have a 1960s black swimsuit that I bought from Detroit's V-Male when I was at Viva Las Vegas and a black scarf I got from a thrift store years ago. I don't know how much cooperation I will get from Midnight, but it is worth a try.
Help Wanted - Denver Area Intern/Assistant
I need help. The office work is piling up and I have so much more I want to do. So I am looking for someone in the Denver area for a part-time paid intern/assistant position. One important qualification is computer literacy with programs like Word and Excel and surfing the net quickly and effectively. It is also important that this special someone be personable and can make cold calls and has a car for running errands of which I will reimburse mileage. You do not need to be a hair/makeup stylist, but there will be opportunities for learning that aspect if that is what you are looking for.
The position will involve-
General office work
Fulfilling book orders
Sales which will include commission
Assisting in the day-to-day organization of both the photo-styling business and book publishing
And other odd jobs
Pay is $10 per hour, plus incentives such as commission on sales and the opportunity to learn. I'm starting work on a new book of which you will get to be involved. If any readers in the Denver area are interested, please send me an email to info@vintagehairstyling.com with your resume.
Thanks!
